About the Designer

Katherine "Katianna" Denemark is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Chicago. She graduated from UIC in 2019 with a BS in Architecture and a Minor in Germanic Studies.

Her other accomplishments include her studies in the UIC Honors College for her entire undergraduate degree, studying abroad in Berlin, Germany, and employment with UIC Housing for 3 academic years.

An Illinois native, she grew up a short drive from the city of Chicago in the Southwest suburbs, where she graduated in the Top Ten Percent of Lockport Township High School's class of 2015. There she also received the Illinois AP Award and the Illinois Scholar Award. Her younger twin brother went on to study Aeronautical Engineering at Embry Riddle in Prescott, Arizona. He is currently an officer with the United States Air Force.

Katianna spent years showing an interest in architecture prior to pursuing it, for example when she would draw 1:1 scale floor plans on the driveway in chalk to play "house", or when she was more interested in the sectional qualities of a doll house than the dolls. In high school she was given an outlet for this interest in the offered CADD and REVIT Drafting courses taught, where she participated in Skills USA twice, receiving a silver medal in 2015.

When not designing and working in architecture, Katianna enjoys attending musical theatre performances by Broadway in Chicago, artistic inspiration through expressive word painting, and learning about the histories of the city and world. She can often be found traveling the city to discover a new cafe, with her laptop and a book in tow. At night she enjoys admiring the architecture in a different setting, with the occasional karaoke trip.
